Well I’m pleased to report this week that we had a fantastic match.  I cannot fault any of our players performances and as a result we had a great result.  Yes, I had a bit to say to our players at training yesterday but importantly they needed a boost in confidence.  I think most people who know our team may have been quite surprised by the starting positions of a few players today but Mark and I had discussed what we were going to start with and the players had our full confidence.

First half we were exceptional, passing and creating chances well. A superb performance from Carl and Keenan in the middle really structured our team well. The Back 4, which was a different combination to what we have used before, were really good, they dealt with things well and then after winning the ball used it effectively.

In attack we really came into our own with players not getting under each others feet,  we seemed to know exactly where team mates were going to make a run too and carried a threat across the whole width of the pitch.

As a result we went in at half time 4-0 up.

Second half saw me change the midfield pair to give them a rest and Callum and Jai to drop in. Falcons, straight from the kick off, attacked and Lewis quickly scored.  A great start.  We did take our foot off the gas a little and Hurstwood then attacked and just for a few minutes we seemed a little out of sorts but we soon relieved the pressure and began to play again.

A cross from Dylan saw some great movement from Brad to score with a one touch finish to complete his hat trick and shortly after signal the end of his game with a job well done and  Keenan was given a run up top to replace him.  Falcons continued to pass the ball and then some great work from our defenders on the ball started to happen, they were full of confidence and it was nice to see them travelling forward with the ball.

We still created chances but couldn’t quite finish them.  A great cross from the right saw Keenan finish well for our seventh goal. James B then completed his Hat trick and had an early bath with Carl coming on to replace him.

We couldn’t quite put any more away but Hurstwood really went for it in numbers just wanting to get one back.  Todd made a great stop and Falcons scrambled away the rebound before Hurstwood could finish. Hurstwood then had an effort go over the bar late on.

Final score Hurstwood 0-8 Falcons.

Well I am really proud of the boys who really played to their potential today, they played as a team and there were some really good individual and team goals today. First clean sheet in some time also which is a credit to Todd and the team who defended from the front today. Another confidence boost! Really nice to see more passing and Falcons being less direct, using width and crossing the ball.  The back four were good and credit to Tyree who was organising them.  The work rate was good  and the boys seemed to have a belief in each other that I haven’t seen for a while. There was very unselfish attitude within the team today and players were happy to create goals for each other. So, well done to all of you today!!! Remember how we played this week and lets make it the norm!

As for Hurstwood, this was to be their last match together due to unreliability in recent weeks when they haven’t been able to field a full side. I think it’s a real shame and I felt for their Manager at the end who has run the team for some time and has called time on it.  The Hurstwood players all turned up today for the match ironically and gave 100% for their manager. They pushed and pushed for a goal, although their heads dropped a bit later in the game, they gave it their all and I wish them all the best for the future.

Thank you to our Parents who offered great support to the boys this week and to Fahren who did a really good job running the line.
